Akakura Onsen Ski Area

Rising straight above the hot-spring town of Akakura in Niigata’s Myoko Kogen, this ski area is a web of chairlifts spreading over broad, mostly easy and intermediate slopes. It’s the only resort in Myoko with night skiing, and it runs on natural snow alone, which in this deep-snow corner of Japan is rarely a worry; the onsen are steps from the lifts.
