At Shirley Meadows in the Greenhorn Mountains of Sequoia National Forest, above Wofford Heights and Lake Isabella, Alta Sierra is Kern County’s own ski hill. It opens only when Southern Sierra storms deliver, so seasons are unpredictable; after two dry winters it reopened in February 2026, with friendly beginner and intermediate terrain plus steeper shots like Hole Shot and Goosebumps.
