In the Elkhorn Mountains of northeast Oregon, near Baker City, Anthony Lakes is a nonprofit ski area working under permit in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. A single chairlift opens an even split of easy, intermediate and steep terrain, cat trips reach untracked powder beyond the lift, and Nordic trails and rentable yurts round out a refreshingly uncrowded mountain.
