Lee’s Ski Hill is Ouray’s free town ski hill, two blocks up Third Avenue from Main Street. A local woman gave much of the land to the city in 1946 as a recreation area for the young people of Ouray, and it is still free to ski. One beginner slope is served by a rope tow with 75 feet of vertical, and generations of local kids have learned here, skiing after school until dark. The city runs it when there is at least a nine-inch base, from noon to dusk on weekends and school holidays and from 3 pm on weekdays, and a late-winter ski jumping party closes the season.
