Haystack Mountain above Wilmington in southern Vermont is now the private home of the Hermitage Club: valeted skis, a grand clubhouse and quiet, well-groomed trails. Lifts are for members and their guests, but the club opens its slopes to local Deerfield Valley residents on a couple of community days each winter.
