Chepelare, a ski town in Bulgaria’s Rhodope Mountains, does its skiing on Mechi Chal just south of town. A chairlift serves easy and intermediate runs, including a long black-graded course used for international races. The town takes its skiing seriously, with a ski museum opened after biathlete Ekaterina Dafovska won Bulgaria’s first Winter Olympic gold.
