On the northern slopes of Mount Ruapehu in Tongariro National Park, Whakapapa is reached by the Bruce Road and has been run by Whakapapa Holdings since 2025. Most of its terrain is gentle, with a large learner area, while advanced skiers find steeper lines higher on the volcano, and the Sky Waka gondola links the base to the upper mountain.
